9 days...

So I may be mia from the blog world for the next little while unless I miraculously find some wifi to steal within the next 9 - 15 days.

I'm heading out of Windsor tomorrow morning to spend 9 gloriously relaxing days at the cottage. I have been working all summer and haven't taken a vacation at all since when I went to the Mayan which was back in May... So I have been watching everyone else take their weeks off at work in the nice weather while I slave away slinging phones... yes slave.

BUT now it's my turn. I am officially finished working for a couple weeks till I get settled in England.

and back to the point of this post.... I will have possibly very minimal internet access while at the cottage. Only whatever few signals I can catch off my phone. I am hoping that I snag some wifi in the airport before I fly out of even possibly on the plane which would make my little heart very happy.

So until then get excited for some postings in the very near future involving many of my new britventures as I travel across the big pond.

#14 - Complete

As some of you may know my favourite band decided to break up this past summer after 10 years of playing together :(
I was obviously bummed out about this. Then I noticed that they made their website a sort of tribute page where fans could submit pictures and such for the band. Which created my idea for #14 on my list....

Get my picture on Alexisonfire's website (www.theonlybandever.com)

I just checked today and found it right near the top... so everyone should check it out because I was super excited to see that it made the cut :)

The picture posted also means a lot to me because it was taken on my 23rd birthday which was a present from my brother Brandon. He got me tickets to see the band and we pushed right to the front row and I ended up meeting them and getting a signed drumstick for my birthday from the lead singer. not bad at all :)

ANNNNNND it is also pretty awesome that this was my first goal to accomplish on this list.

101 in 1001

So for those who have noticed at the top of my page I have redone my list of 101 things to do in 1001 days.... what is this you may ask.... well....

The Mission - Complete 101 preset tasks in 1001 days.

Criteria -
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days? - Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as New Year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

So you will be able ot follow my process on this blog as well since I have combined it with my British adventures...

Over two years ago when I started my first 101 list I failed miserably by only completing 14 tasks... yes pathetic. So hopefully with my newly updated list I can do wayyyyy better :)

money

Well I got my first look at the British pound currency that I will be using, and I am happy to report that it is very similar to Canadian money... its different colours and Americans will probably say it looks like Monopoly money as well :)

I do have to report though that Canadian money in my opinion is prettier. A weird thing about pounds is the bills are all different sizes. This through me off a bit at first. BUT the worst part is the exchange rate... today I took in $301 and left the bank with 180£ and cried a bit at the brutal exchange rate. Well here's to hooking on a street corner to pay my rent in a month...

travelling in style

I was so so so so so happy to receive an awesome gift tonight from my co-workers. They are an amazing group of people and I am really going to miss all of them. But they, being the ever so thoughtful group of friends they are, got me a new luggage set.

I am in love! I can honestly say that this is the perfect set for me colour and design wise. It is exactly what I would have picked out for myself. So now I will be travelling in true style! I appreciate this so much and it was such a thoughtful gesture. Thank you ladies and gentleman.

a little help from friends

I received a a couple very useful gifts the other day from my neighbours...

Not gonna lie I was pretty pumped about receiving these books especially the Frommer's guide. It comes complete with my own little map as well :) It tells you the best places to visit in London and how to see them all in a day or two. I think the best part is the tube (or bus as we call them here) map.

The language and culture book is pretty weird. It's crazy to read all the sayings and slang, which I'm sure I will pick up on right away. Maybe I'll keep this little book in my purse in case someone calls me a "skeg" (which according to my guide is an unfashionable badly dressed person)

riots

Dear Londoners...

Please stop rioting...
I leave in a month and would like to not walk down the streets as they are burning to the ground.

Love Cara

I feel as if I have been living in a bubble for the past week because I had no clue about these riots until people started commenting about them on facebook. Obviously I get my world news updates via facebook status updates. Yes I realise how ridiculous that is. But alas such is that living in our social networking obsessed generation. The area where we got out flat hasn't had a a riot in that area as far as I could tell so *fingers crossed* keep my neighbourhood safe :)

new home :)

Laura and I have been looking around trying to find a place to live since she leaves in 2 weeks. And the search is finally over... I will be living in Chelsea. We found a very nice fully furnished two bedroom flat. Its a little bit pricier but in a really good area so all will work out.
the front building

backyard

kitchen

living room

bathroom
So now I have a little place to call home in London.... the hardest part will be deciding what 55lbs of my life to bring to that home.

Only 38 days left in Canada...
