broaches and books

So I totally forgot to post this when I came back here a few weeks ago so here it is now... a few weeks late...

When I came back to start my new teaching job I had a little pile waiting for me on my desk. It had in it one Christmas card from a student of mine and a little wrapped up present. So i opened it and this was what was inside....

Now this is possibly the ugliest broach I have ever seen BUT I love it! I love it because it is the first gift I have received from a student and it is so thoughtful of her because I had only taught her for like 3 days before the holidays so she thought about me enough to get me a gift for Christmas too. Well her parents did... SO NICE!

In other news I feel like I have finally found my favourite types of books. It all began with me reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer. It was a sci-fi type of book or Dystopian book. Basically its like a controlled state of society. Brave New World is this genre of book.
So anyways I love these types of books and have been reading them a lot lately. Here's some of the good ones that I have read...
The Hunger Games Trilogy (Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay)
The Host by Stephenie Meyer
Matched by Ally Condie
Crossed by Ally Condie
Divergent - Veronica Roth
Gone by Michael Grant
Hunger by Michael Grant
The Maze by James Dashner
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
Pretties by Scott Westerfield
Specials by Scott Westerfield

visits confirmed.

Back to London and back to being sick.

I think this is my bodies way of telling me it wants me to go back home to Canada :)
I just can't seem to kick this sinus infection I have. And ot make it worse Laura is sick when I'm not and vice versa so like the 'carrier monkies' we are, we just seem to keep passing it back and forth.

In other news we will finally have heat tonight! YAY! our landlord came by today and turned it all on for us so thats pretty good we wont freeze as usual. This might help with our sickness issue as well.

School is going okay. It's long days but I do like it most of the time. I have a few problem kids which makes it tough. I have one kid who refuses to listen to me and blatantly ignores when I speak to him or ask him to stop doing something. He also is the same student who thinks its okay to punch other students in the face. ANNNNND for some reason his parents seem to think that this is our fault as teachers not theirs as parents. RIDICULOUS!
So basically I don't really have a life currently outside of school. I only have a couple hours after my hour commute home from school. And most of the time I stay after school to do work and such. Then I have been sick or exhausted so I crash early.

The most exciting parts of my life consist of all the books I have been reading during my hour tube rides. Best decision I ever made was to buy my Kobo.

In other news I am going to be having a busy February! Lindsay and Steph have booked a trip to visit me right before Brandon comes. So I will have some back home lovin from February 10 to the 26th. CANT WAIT!!!

back to the grind.

It has been a crazy week. Lots of things have been going on. I'm back at school now working with my little friends. I have got all 34 of their names down pat. Which was a challenge considering I have names like Abynahya, Axygen, Abyshan... you get it. I also have gotten down my daily routines at school and such which has made things a lot more comfortable here. I am constantly busy. I usually get up every day at 6am and leave the house for 7am to catch the tube which I ride for 48 mins to get to school. This has also been okay considering I have been taking this time to read my books. So I can actually have time to read every day.  So I am usually at school daily by 810am. Then I got about my day teaching and such and then I am usually home every night between 530 and 630pm. Which gives me a couple hours for dinner and hanging out before I head to bed each night. So really I dont have time for much else during the week.

This week I went to the opera for the first time and saw La Traviata. It was really good. I was glad that I read a synopsis right before I went that way I could follow more easily what was going on. They also had a small script that went over top the stage so you could see what they were saying while singing. It was at the Royal Opera House which is a beautiful venue. I hope to go see a ballet at the same place soon because they have Romeo and Juliet playing.

I also had a class field trip this week based on our current term theme of Pirates. We went to explore a replica of a real pirate ship with 60 kids which was interesting in itself. They were all pretty well behaved the only tricky part was getting all 60 on and off the tube. But we did survive and it was a pretty fun day all together. The pirate ship was interesting and they gave us a guided tour and the children got to ask the pirate guide questions which was funny. All in all it was a good day.

This ship held up to 8o sailors at one time... which is crazy considering how small it actually was when you actually get on the boat. They must have been sleeping on top of each other.

So its been a good but busy week. Also over the break I had a chance to read a couple books to add to my 101 list.

first day of teaching

Well today was an extremely long long day. It was my first day in the classroom teaching and it went well so far. It's a lot of information to take in for teaching but I'm sure I'll pick it up soon.

Anyways my day started out with my internal alarm or my jet lag kicking in and waking me up at 4am and not allowing me to fall back asleep. So I stayed up and read until 6am then got ready for work. Also the sun doesn't rise till almost 8am so I walked to work in the dark and since it sets at 345pm I also got to walk home from school in the dark as well. shitty shitty sun light hours or lack there of. Anyways today was a day filled with meetings. So I had a full planning with the other three grade one class team teachers during my lunch time. Then after school we had a staff meeting till after 5pm so I didn't get home till 630.

BUT on a positive note our theme for right now is PIRATES!!! and next week on Tuesday we are going on a field trip to visit A REAL PIRATE SHIP!!! Which I am super exited about...

Today when my teaching partner told me I literally got this excited...

So yes I will be visiting a pirate ship next week and tomorrow were making our very own 'buried treasure'.... jealous?

back in london

Well I am officially back in action here in London. My flight came in this morning at 7am and it has a been a rough start already. I was feeling all stuffy on the way over and tried to put myself in a benadryl coma for the 6 1/2 hour flight back here. But sadly this didn't work so I ended up watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two and Inception to keep myself occupied. Then as we were landing my ears didn't pop and they were clogged up so badly that they were actually hurting from the pressure drop when we were landing. Now it is almost 8pm and my one ear is still clogged up so I can half way hear. So I am sitting here alone in my flat since my flatmate wont be back for another 8 days writing this post in between episodes of The Walking Dead. I got hooked on this the night before I flew back since they had a marathon of it on tv at home. So I'm currently watching the episodes I didn't see.
So it feels weird to be alone since for the past few weeks at home I was constantly with people. I do start teaching on Wednesday so that should be good because then I'm sure I'll be super busy with that.
Anyways my break was great. I got to relax and spend time with my friends and my family. I tried to see as many people as I could but I am starting to realise that I can't chase people and my true friends made the time to be with me which was great. It's sad to think how I wont be home now for another 7 months but I think I will be okay this time because everything will fall in to place and work itself out for the best.
While I was home I got to indulge my sushi craving with my love niko.... mmm and it was glorious. I also found an amazing site to download ebooks which is amazing too since there are sooo many books I wanted to get.
I also had some time to do a couple of my 101 things like do some Sudoku puzzles and I read 2 more books. So little by little my list is starting to work itself out. Hopefully I can make it a point to start knocking out some of the easy ones off the list soon.
Well more britventures to come in the new year :)
