August: Travel Link Up

I'm pumped to be participating in this months Travel Link Up post put on by fellow expat bloggers Kelly, Emma, Rebecca and Mandy This months theme is....

Staycations - (Defintion) A period in which an individual or family stays home and participates in leisure activities within driving distance, sleeping in their own beds at night.

In honour of my Canadian summer at home I thought I would post about my favourite staycation spot that I will be at this summer.

My parents live in the Kawartha Lakes district of Ontario, Canada and have a little piece of heaven on a small secluded lake. Since retiring they have moved up there full time so when I am in Canada it's my 50% home. The other 50% belonging to my other parents home in Windsor. (yes you read right... 2 sets of parents... divorce... remarried... long story short... 4 parents.) Anyways back to the staycation...

The house is located right on the water with a small beach plus a dock to sit on and enjoy the day. I will be there during August which means beautiful weather for swimming and just relaxing before returning to London to teach 26 new 5-year-olds.

The house is surrounded by nature and about a half an hour drive from the nearest small town. Which makes it even better because you are out in the middle of the woods and you can see lots of different animals and just be in a peaceful place without the day-to-day city noises you usually hear. As you can tell from above I am obsessed with feeding the chipmunks. When we first moved in they would not come near us and year after year we kept leaving peanuts out for them. Then slowly we would sit and put the peanuts closer to us... working our way up to actually having them take them from your hands. They have become so familiar with my parents that they actually wait outside the door for them in the morning hoping to snag a few peanuts.

O Canada how I have missed you... See you in 2 days :)

  2. This reminds me of my home in NY! It's so nice to get away and be secluded by a lake.

  3. Oh I live in Quebec and I just love how in Canada you can go a few hours away from the city and get those peaceful places! While I'm not the biggest fan of the woods, I do love lakes and the peace and quiet that come with nature!
